Start with the boat's present location
Send an overview of the boat and the route to the road through the estimate form. If a marina or property manager controls access, identify the contact and any known restrictions. The enquiry helps establish a possible method; confirm availability, the included work and the appointment before authorizing collection.
Disposal, transport or a recovery assessment?
Explain whether you want an unwanted hull disposed of, a boat transported intact or a damaged vessel assessed for recovery. The motor, trailer and loose contents need to be included or excluded explicitly. A non-running boat is not necessarily safe to lift at its original attachment points.
For junk boat removal, ask whether the receiving destination accepts the whole hull and what preparation it requires. Any reusable components need a recipient and a condition assessment. Aluminium or a motor may have value, but collection, preparation and receiving costs still need to be agreed; no credit follows automatically from the material alone.
Driveways, yards and restricted approaches
Check the available gate opening, turning space and clearance beside fences or buildings. Describe unpaved ground, slopes and overhead obstructions without moving the boat to test the route. If an immobile trailer blocks the only access, include its condition and position in the initial enquiry.
A trailer assessment needs more than a tyre photograph: the frame, axle, bearings, coupling and boat supports can all affect the proposed method. Leave unstable blocking in place and keep clear of a leaning hull. Confirm who would arrange loading and whether any site preparation is required before equipment arrives.
Dock and tidal-water requests
For a boat near Bear Creek or another Dundalk waterfront site, say whether it is afloat, grounded or partly submerged. Provide the dock or berth location and facility contact. Photograph from a safe position; do not enter a damaged hull or approach an unstable bank for a closer view.
Ask the site operator about entry, working hours and permitted staging space. Water-based recovery, haul-out and road transport are separate activities, so confirm which can be assessed and who would undertake them. For a sailboat, include mast position, rigging and keel details. A description of a waterway does not establish access permission or a relationship with its marinas.
Agree contents handling and documentation
Identify fuel, oil, batteries and unknown containers without draining or opening them. Ask who will manage these contents, what the receiver accepts and whether dismantling is included. A general environmental claim does not establish the arrangements for a specific hull.
Have the registration, any applicable title and evidence of your authority ready for review.
